Introduction to the World of Bellydance!

Enjoy this Introductory Level workshop where you’ll learn about the beauty and benefits of Bellydance! Lurainya will give a performance demonstration, as well as teach about the history and the many physical benefits attained by practicing this artform (some of which you will experience for yourself as she teaches you the basics of beginner moves and combinations)! By the end of this workshop you will have had a great workout, while also learning hip “lifts and drops,” undulations, hip “figure-8s,” torso circles, snake arms, wrists circles, finger ripples, and so much more. You will improve your posture, and learn how to control muscles you never knew you had, all while having fun! Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement (t-shirt and sweatpants are fine), and no, you do not have to bare your belly!

Frequently Asked Questions

LEVEL 1 & 2 (Beginner)

No prior dance experience necessary. Level I introduces the beginner to the art of Bellydance. Basic Isolations are covered, with strong emphasis on posture & technique. Students will receive Level II material once they can properly execute Level I material. (Levels are often combined in one class and split into two groups that night. Level 2 dancers will work on fine-tuning their skills and layering different isolations as prep for level 3. Lurainya works well challenging those who are ready for more, & keeping it simple for those just starting out.

LEVEL 3

This level is much more challenging and moves at a faster pace. Expect to spend at least three full sessions in Level 2 before registering for this class (unless you have teacher approval).

LEVEL 4

Must audition and receive teacher approval.

Lurainya’s Dance Style

Drop-ins

Drop-in fees are $25/class paid at the beginning of that class

Make-ups

One make-up pass will be given to each student at the start of the session and may be used at any of the listed locations. Make up passes will expire at the end of that session. You may also give your makeup pass to a friend as long as it is used before the expiration date.

Refunds

Refunds are not available. If for some reason you find that you can not finish out the session you may find someone to take your place.

If you are unsure about signing up for a session contact Lurainya to make an appointment to stop in on a current session to observe the class in action.

What to wear

Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement. Skirts, tights, sweatpants, T-shirts, and tank tops are all acceptable. You do not have to bare your belly. But keep in mind the more Lurainya can see of your body, the more she can help you to execute proper movements.

Shoes

Soft soled dance sandals are preferred
Bare feet or socks are acceptable
Sneakers or shoes are not recommended unless for medical reasons
